Goals
The ST. BENEDICT FARMERS INSTITUTE ON SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE is focused on:
- Organizing and strengthening the participatory and asset-based processes among its partner barangay-based communities
- Developing community-based asset maps
- Formulating asset-based community/barangay development plans
- Supervising a pool of farmers, scientists and community-based organizers.
- Educating and training farmers on various aspects of sustainable agriculture.
- Developing a community-based and farmer-directed educational program on Christian value formation, sustainable agriculture, health and nutrition.
- Developing the St. Benedict’s Farm (SB Farm) in Alang-alang into an integrated, diversified, organic, community-based, farmer-directed learning center, health care center, organic market and alternative agro-ecotourism showcase.
- Facilitating farmer-based technology, research and innovation for development of sustainable farming systems and health care.
- Developing community-based seed banks through collection, improvement, evaluation and breeding of plant and animal species which are significant to agriculture, health and nutrition.
- Distributing animal and plant species to partner communities that are significant to agriculture, health and nutrition.
- Developing appropriate institutional management systems for prototyping and operations.
